Breaking Olympic news in the funny names world! This young weightlifter’s splendid, hilarious, long name has started to go viral, reaching #3 on Reddit yesterday.
As some of the world’s premier funnynameologists, we decided it was worth a rare Sunday night update to share this with you, especially since we have something special planned for you tomorrow.
We’ve done our fair share of funny Olympic names coverage already (each of those words is its own hyperlink for those keeping score), but somehow this one escaped us until now.

I’d be ecstatic too if the Blog of Funny Names decided to devote a special Sunday evening post to me too. Unfortunately, my name is Dave, so that will never happen.
Saeid Mohammadpourkarkaragh is only 19 years old (which would make him a fairly old gymnast, but quite young for a weightlifter or strongman since they usually peak in their late twenties), but has an impressive record, including an appearance just last year in the World Junior Championships.
We know very little else about the Iranian Olympian, but we can count 21 letters in his last name. If you’re anything like me, you’ll also have your fair share of questions… important ones, such as:
- Did his superhuman muscular strength originate from having to lift his pencil twice as often as other kindergarteners when he was learning to read and write?
- Why don’t the Olympics provide bonus points for competitors with long or hilarious names? After all – that’s what makes us watch!
This also gives me the chance to ask for your help in answering one of those age-old questions that has plagued philosophers since the days of Aristotle…
Just so you know, it’s usually better to clean after you jerk.
Haha, thanks for the tip 🙂
Imagine being the poor soul who had to type Saeid’s name into the teleprompter….”Is is spelled right?” Um, who the hell knows.
Luckily, I doubt anyone would know 🙂 Iranian names are usually spelled in Farsi, so it’s all kind of a guess anyway. In any case, I think the guy who typed his name in did a fantastic job. A commendable effort! 🙂
I do my brother-in-law in Iranian! It should be Mohammad Saeid Pourkarkaragh. Very good effort indeed.
Perhaps he can enter professional sports. I’d like to see his name printed on the back of his uniform.
That’d be pretty awesome. I remember how hard a time they had printing William VanLandingham’s last name on a baseball jersey. Mohammadpourkarkaragh would be a whole different monster!
The karkaragh is name village in Ardabil State in Persia. to alphabetic Iranian : کرکرق
The Dave in Persian langauge means : The Monster
But in Handwriting Farsi.
Yeah you’re right.
LOOOLLL 😀
