Good morning Funny Names fans!
Starting off with funny named building news on everyone’s mind right now – London’s under construction Walkie Talkie building. The developers of the building are in some trouble as apparently, sun rays reflected off the building’s glass facade is causing some problems – namely, the glare is melting cars. Just a slight issue then. One person who has no problems however, is the subeditor who came up with this headline for the article : “Did the Building Developers Make a Glaring Error?” Thanks to our Londonese correspondents Amb and Dave for this (leaving it out would’ve been a glaring omissions etc.)
Moving on into the world of sports, but staying in London, where soccer club Chelsea have been parading about their new players. One of them is Brazilian walking spelling error Willian (whose previous team was Anzhi Makhachkala), but the real prize belongs to their new Dutch midfielder Wulfert Cornelius van Ginkel. Shamefully, he usually goes by “Marco” Van Ginkel – but that last name is enough joy for daily use anyway. Even more happily, he will soon line up against Ricky van Wolfswinkel, another Dutchman who joined rivals Norwich City this summer. Van Ginkel & Van Wolfswinkel, a folk duo waiting to happen.
In This-Will-Totally-Make-You-Tear-Up news, 96-year-old Fred Stobaugh this week became the oldest person to crack the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Sweet Lorraine”, an ode to his recently deceased wife. Check out the video at the above link for the full story, it’s a doozie!
Good news for funny name and barbecue fans – Dickie Doo Bar-B-Que has reopened! If you happen to be around Sedalia, MO, do stop by and say Arto sent you. They won’t know what you’re talking about.
Alright, that’s our roundup for this morning. Have a great day, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening and good night!
Made my weekend, as usual. I know, I need a life. But at my age, if it hasn’t happened by now…
Loving funny names IS a life, Mark. At your age, you should know that! 🙂
Well, it seems to be about all that’s left of my life, anyway. 😛
Haha, it’s a life worth living 🙂
I agree with my colleague here. Life is funny names, and funny names…is life.
Darn tootin’! (and dickie doo too!)
Love the Sweet Lorraine tribute! And the barbecue. 🙂
And who doesn’t love a great “wolf” connection…
Everyone loves a wolf connection, and Winkel-Ginkel connection.
As a grizzled and cagey funny names blogger (those are two of my favorite words always used to describe “veterans” in sports), it’s tough to make me laugh out loud. But Dickie Doo Bar-B-Que definitely did!
A pilgrimage to Dickie Doo may be in order.
Nice sign off, Truman. 🙂
I knew you’d catch that! Happy Friday!
Back at ya, baby! Have a fabulous weekend!
interesting, a ‘von’ vs ‘van’matchup
Whoever wins – we win.
Très amusement!
If we could enjoy Dickie Doo Barb-B-Que while listening to the banjo pickin’, guitar strummin’ tunes of Van Ginkel & Van Wolfswinkel, life would be that much sweeter! Nice job with the funny names, Arto. Quality work 🙂
FUNNY NAMES DUDES!!! This is one of my favourite ones. WOLFSWINKEL??? Bloody amazing.
Not strictly a name but I did come across a food delivery van run by the dutch intelligence
