Gilbert Gottfried has a trademark comedic persona. According to Wikipedia, this persona consists of “speaking in a loud, grating tone of voice and squinting.” Personally, I think anyone who develops that as their trademark performance and is successful, has to be doing something very right.
And so Gilbert is.
An actor and stand-up comedian, Gottfried is instantly recognizable thanks to that voice and it’s therefore perhaps not surprising that he’s very well known for voice acting. He voiced the parrot Iago in Disney’s Aladdin, a crazed dentist named Dr. Bender in The Fairly OddParents, as well as a turn as Jerry the Belly Button Elf on the cartoon Ren & Stimpy. Lot of funny name credentials right there.
He got his big break in 1980, after touring the stand-up circuit a number of years, when he was hired onto Saturday Night Live as a cast member. This led to more TV appearances and eventually this brilliant improvisation heavy 2-minute scene in Beverly Hills Cop 2.
See, in the case of a guy like Gilbert Gottfried, actually writing about him seems unnecessary. You can just let him do the talking.
As for awards, he won the honor of World’s Unsexiest Man in 2006 from the Boston Phoenix newspaper, whose location I’m not entirely sure about. I believe its sister publication is called the Cincinnati Newark. Regardless, that’s a heck of an honor, though just a year later he found a woman named Dana Kravitz who (presumably) disagreed with that ranking and married him.
Here, for your enjoyment, is Gilbert Gottfried yelling at people and calling them fools a bunch. It’s good.
I must express my deep disappointment with the Funny Names Blog. Mr. Gottfried’s qualification as a certifiable funny name were not explored in sufficient depth. Of course, one could say that anyone with the name Gilbert automatically makes the Funny Names Blog grade. But then the alliteration GG puts Gilbert Gottfried way over the top. And that he’s just a very funny (looking) guy, well that’s just gravy – all over our faces.
It’s true. Our Quality Assurance department has been on hiatus or something. 🙂
Sincere apologies. Deadline fast approaching, I forgot to pass it though the double-g joke generator machine and just let GG do the talking.
Gennady Golovkin will beat you up for that, haha 🙂 Just kidding! Good post!
Yeah, you have to always keep a close eye on the QA department. As for the hiatus, it’s best to always use your leg muscles when lifting heavy objects.
Haha, that little ditty at the beginning of the video reminds me of that night you, Leslie and I watched stupid family feud answers for probably 90 minutes straight.
Props for mixing it up. I was expecting Peter Seamus Laclan O’Toole, but apparently that was some Wikipedia vandalism. Still, here is the old edit of the WP page for posterity: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Peter_O%27Toole&oldid=586243023
I think they’ve given him four different middle names over the past 12 hours. I don’t know what it really is so didn’t want to go for it. Last night it was “James”, which isn’t too funny. Maybe a special tribute post is in order thursday or something once I figure out what his damn name is.
Gilbert Gottfried reading 50 Shades of Gray. Turn down the volume if you’re at work!
This is the best thing.
he is funny! And I love that he makes folks laugh even while calling them fools and such. Did a bit of research on this end and looks like he has one daughter–age 6ish. Am sure he has a slightly different personality as dad, but curious how it all plays out at home.
Haha, I can only imagine how he sounds when asking the kid to clean her room.
