Howdy folks! It’s Funny Names Friday 3 hours earlier than usual for me, because I’m sending this to you from Orlando, Florida – where I’ve been visiting for a med school interview!
I’ll have to keep this fairly short because there’s a lot going on tomorrow (pssssst… there’s also a special related announcement at the end of the post) , but I do want you to know that I’ve been documenting the highlights of my trip, and like any good tourist, that has meant compiling all the great funny names I’ve encountered!
Today I traveled through Baltimore, and then to Orlando. The Baltimore airport (absolutely beautiful, by the way), introduced me to this doozy of a business name, and a bald man who later gave me a quizzical look.
Then I arrived in Orlando, and saw some pretty awesome names down there as well:
But before that, I traveled to Cleveland, in Cuyahoga County. Cleveland was named after Moses Cleaveland, and they removed the first “a” in order to typeset the city’s name onto a newspaper title. I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and explore some famous artifacts, including a leather jacket worn by Patty Donahue of The Waitresses, which was honestly my mission in attending the Rock Hall. Call me crazy.
No seriously, call me crazy!
But the highlights, funny names-wise, were:

A banjo head and guitar used by recently deceased folk legend Pete Seeger, husband of Toshi, father of Mika and Tinya, and grandfather of Kitama Cahill-Jackson. RIP Pete, and thanks for the tunes and vision!
But wait… there’s more!
It turns out I’m not the only funny names blogger in the Sunshine State right now, and this calls for a summit, of sorts. So tomorrow morning I’m going to be finally meeting (in person) one of my favorite people ever.
Who is it? I’ll give you some hints:
- This person is totally adorbs! (Enough to get me to use the term “adorbs” for the first and only time in my life)
- This person is quickly closing in on becoming the third most prolific poster in BoFN history.
- This person writes an awesome blog about superfluous verbiage!
Can you guess who it is hiding behind this coffee mug?
So tomorrow after my interview, I’ll be making the 2-hour drive out to Sarasota to have dinner with Amb, Shutterbug Sis, and the whole fam-damily! Looking forward to it, and hopefully I’ll also be celebrating an awesome interview day. Then I’ll make the drive back to Orlando and return to San Diego on Saturday to hang out with Arto and a special guest who’s in town for the weekend – Rob. It’ll be a whirlwind tour de force of funny names blogging meetups, and I hope it’s commemorating one of the most successful weeks of my life!
Good luck with the interview and med school.
Good luck, Dave!
A real-life meeting between Amb and Dave is epic! It’s like Solomon and Bethsheba or something!
We send you both all of our focused positive vibes.
That’s exactly the analogy I was thinking of! Uh, you know, once, um, you’d said it. Yeah! Furry Lewis for the win.
Well, it’s good for you that you didn’t say it first, because I checked up and found I got the spelling totally wrong (Bathsheba) and the person wrong (I was thinking Queen of Sheba).
D’oh!
It’s a good think they don’t let me stage manage this epic encounter or it would be like a Jerry Lewis movie.
Wait, am I the Queen of Sheba in this epic enounter? And is that a good thing? 😉
(It was completely epic, by the way).
Neato!
I think it’s a good thing. Apparently she inspired the Song of Songs!
How about the interview?
Yay for high level summits! Adorbs! Good luck, Davide!
Good luck with the interview. And have fun with Amb and the family, not that you need any encouragement to have fun.
Safe travels.
Dave needs encouragement to see me in person more often than once every TWO YEARS. Or possibly to just marry me already. Help a girl out, would you Fannie? 😉
i’m kind of partial to big bill. good luck with the interview, that should be no problem. and even better luck with amb and the family!
No luck needed, Beth. Shutterbug wasn’t with us, but he impressed my dad and charmed my mom with ease. I, of course, was neither charmed nor impressed, and was counting down the minutes until our delightul, intimate, four hour long dinner for two could just end already. Obviously. 🙂
yeh, i ‘m sure it was rough duty, smb )
So? Am I totes adorbs enough in person to make all the heckling about plane tickets worthwhile?!?
Thanks for dinner, babe. This is going to be a thing now, right?! Can we make this a thing?!?
xo.

you saw a lot in Florida! Thanks for documenting. Adorbs, huh? Yes, let that be the last time you use that word, Dave. I tried it once and got a rather large eye-roll from my 11-year-old daughter. We’re just too old to pull that kind of verbiage off.
You’re so right, we’re totes too old!
No such thing, Liz!
