Back when I was wet behind the ears, I dreamed about being a writer for BoFN.
Then King Dave opened his big, fuzzy heart and let me into the big leagues.
Well, something like that.
I was writing along at markbialczak.com when my fellow bloggers Liz and Kerbey told me about this spot they both were posting at. The Blog of Funny Names, they nudged me to check out. Β It ran almost daily stories frequently written by some seriously funny folks.
The ringleader was a guy by the name of Dave. He got in touch with me, and I must have passed muster. Maybe it was my name. In any case, he gave me a montly slot on his blog, and in November, 2014, off I went with a piece on golfer Fred Funk.
It went live on the blog. I held my breath.
Dave commented in a thread with Kerbey.
“Wait, Fred was a boxer?!?!?! Iβm not sure if you know how much this excites me, but it really does!!!!”
I was in.
I learned that Dave was so into arcane sports facts.
Over the course of the next few years, we traded odd views and remarks about that and this, Hollywood folks and other peculiarities I came up with for his blog.
For some reason, I started to call him King Dave. His world. I only wrote in it, you know.
So now I bow to this worldly ruler as he wages such an important and courageous fight.
You rule to me, King Dave. Thanks for reigning with just the right touch.
If you haven’t yet, take a look at great piece NBC San Diego did about King Dave’s journey against brain cancer.
Dave’s friends have put up a Go Fund Me page.
all hail king dave! and here’s to one of his finest writers – (p.s. liz and i are going to meet in person tonight -we’ll raise a toast to king dave)
I’ll add a clink across the miles, Beth, to you and Liz!
clink, clink, clink!
“. . . Dave rules, and Mr. Mark ROCKS . . .”
“. . . BoFN’s seasoned pro saunters back in, and with characteristic modesty underplays his top class contribution to the BoFN canon . . .”
“. . . It’s the return of the Markmeister . . . The boys are definitely back in town . . .”
“. . . Mark played some Funk-kay music with that first post, and now he returns to lay down some champion grooves for the man! . . .”
You are a maestro, Diddy.
Did you do that banner change? That’s pretty slick, Mark Man! Nice throne theme!
Yup, guilty, Diddy. But I think it may only stick on my post.
Thank you Mark! Beautiful stuff to read, just before I head over to start back up on my rotations. I appreciate it, and all of you!
I’m so glad you’re back over at the rotations, my friend. You are an inspiration with your hard work, King Dave.
Love this, Mark!
And I love the new banner whoever did it.
I put that new banner on to honor King Dave, Fannie.
Such a cool feature!
π King Dave.
Like the new banner. π
Reblogged this on Fannie Cranium's and commented:
Rave for Dave Campaign over at the BoFN Day 9.
You are the best campaign manager ever, Tracy.
Thanks, Mark.
There’s a rule in advertising that it takes seven exposures to a message for the message to be remembered. This is a message worth remembering. π
King Dave, yes. Those were the days π Forever grateful to have made the connection with you and the other Daveworld peasants. Good to see you here!
Those were quite the days, Liz. Indeed.
